# Missed Sunday? How to Catch the Announcements

by [Lynn](https://mooneyprojects.com/blog/author/lynn) on November 3, 2026

*Ask The Office is where I answer the questions church folks ask about technology. Here's this week's.*

> *"I missed worship this Sunday. How do I catch all the announcements and reminders the pastor and leaders shared from the pulpit?"*

Great question, and the answer may already be sitting on your church's YouTube channel.

Many churches, even small ones, livestream on YouTube, Facebook, or another platform. And YouTube automatically creates a **transcript** for most videos: a written, time-stamped version of everything that was said. That means you don't have to rewatch a two-hour service to find the three minutes of announcements that you need.

## How to find the transcript on YouTube

1. Open your church's livestream video.
2. Click **...more** to expand the description below the video.
3. Scroll down and click **Show transcript**.
4. The transcript opens beside the video. Skim it, or use your browser's find tool (**Ctrl+F** on a PC, **Cmd+F** on a Mac) to search for words like *announce*, *meeting*, *Saturday*, or *reminder*.

Click any line in the transcript and the video jumps right to that moment, so you can hear it in the pastor's own words.

## A heads-up about auto-generated transcripts

They aren't perfect. Names and dates sometimes come out garbled, especially names the computer has never heard before. Double-check anything important against the bulletin, the church newsletter, or a quick call to the office.

## Bonus Tip: Let Gemini pull the announcements for you

If you use Google's Gemini, you can skip the scrolling altogether. Gemini can read a public YouTube video and give you a quick rundown, the free version does this too.

Copy the link to your church's livestream, open **Gemini** (in your browser at gemini.google.com or in the Gemini app), and paste in something like this:

> Here is my church's worship service from Sunday: \[paste the YouTube link\]. Please list every announcement, event, and reminder that was shared, in the order they were mentioned. Include any dates, times, and places, and the timestamp in the video where each one comes up.

In a few seconds you'll have a tidy list you can read over coffee, with timestamps you can click if you want to hear one for yourself.

A few things to know:

- **It only works on public videos.** Assuming your church's livestream is already public, there's no private information exchange involved. If your church's videos are unlisted or private, Gemini won't be able to see them.
- **Check the details.** Gemini is working from the same auto-generated transcript, so the same garbled names and dates can slip through. Confirm anything important before you put it on your calendar.
- **Try it on the sermon, too.** Ask for the main points of the message or the Scripture passages that were read. It's a nice way to catch up on what you missed, not just the logistics.

## For church staff: make it even easier

You can help your members find the announcements in seconds. After the service, add timestamps to your livestream description, like *"0:45 Announcements"* and *"18:30 Sermon."* YouTube turns those into clickable links, so people can jump straight to the part they need.

And when someone tells you they missed Sunday, you now have a better answer than "ask somebody who was there."
